Access Control Systems Melbourne Keyless. Logged. Compliant.

Keys walk out the door with the people who hold them. Access control replaces them with credentials you can switch off in ten seconds, whether that is a card, a fob, a PIN, a phone or a fingerprint. We supply and install commercial entry systems across Melbourne for offices, warehouses, apartments, clinics and industrial sites, plus keyless entry for homes.

Supplied, Installed and Serviced Across Melbourne

An entry system decides who can open which door, when, and records every attempt. Instead of a key that works forever and copies itself at any hardware shop, each person carries a credential tied to their name. Give someone access in seconds. Take it away just as fast when they leave, without touching a lock. Rekeying a building after keys go missing is slow and expensive. Cancelling a fob costs nothing.

Controlled entry also lets you set hours, so cleaners only get in between six and eight, restrict a server room to three named people, and pull an audit trail when you need to know who opened the store at four in the morning. This is no longer a big building luxury. Most of the systems we fit are two to six doors.

Priced Per Door, Not Per Guess

Every job we do starts the same way, with a free on site survey where we look at each door rather than quote off a floor plan. Frame material, existing hardware, whether the door is a required exit, where cable can run, and whether it sits on the fire alarm all change what that door needs. You get a door by door specification and a fixed written price.

We fit single shopfront doors, whole office tenancies, warehouse personnel doors, gates and boom gates, and lift control in apartment towers. Because we hold a security licence and a cabling licence, the reader wiring, the network side and the lock hardware are handled by one licensed team on one visit. Not split between a locksmith, an electrician and an IT contractor who each blame the other when a door starts playing up.

Commercial work is the bulk of what we do, but the same crew handles the small jobs. One door on a shopfront, a gate on a yard, a keypad on a storeroom. If you have rung around and been given a number over the phone, ask what lock is going on which door. That is where the real cost sits, and it is why we survey before quoting.

Every door is priced after a free on site survey. No phone estimates, no surprises on the invoice. Call 1300 520 116 or book a survey below.

What Drives the Price Per Door

Two doors in the same building can differ by hundreds of dollars, and the reader on the wall is almost never the reason. These four things are what we look at during the survey.

The door itself

Whether it is a required exit

Where the cable can run

How many people and how many sites

Every door is priced individually after a free survey, in writing, with nothing to pay if you decide not to proceed. If you need an existing system serviced rather than replaced, our repair and servicing team covers hardware we did not fit.

Ways to Open a Door

Most buildings end up using two or three of these together. Staff on their phones, contractors on a code that expires, and a fingerprint reader on the one room that matters. Here is what each is genuinely good at.

Mobile access control using a smartphone to unlock a secure office door

Mobile credentials

Staff open doors with the phone already in their hand. Nothing to issue, nothing to collect back, and access stops the moment someone leaves.

Best for:

Offices, professional services, any site with regular turnover

Cards and fobs

The workhorse of commercial entry and still the right answer for a lot of buildings. Encrypted credentials, not old-style cards copied with a device off the shelf.

Best for:

warehouses, factories, sites with visitors and contractors

Person entering a PIN code on an access control keypad for secure door entry

PIN keypads

Nothing to hand out at all. Individual codes rather than one shared number, so the log still tells you who came in and when.

Best for:

storerooms, low risk doors, temporary and contractor entry

Fingerprint readers

The credential cannot be lent, lost or copied. Fast at moderate volumes and the strongest answer for a room where sharing is the actual risk.

Best for:

cash rooms, drug safes, server rooms, high value stock

Facial recognition access control system used for secure touch-free building entry

Facial recognition

Touch-free and quick when people arrive at once, and works well where hands are full. Privacy obligations apply, which we set up properly.

Best for:

clinics, food handling, main staff entries on larger sites

Commercial access control for boom gates, turnstiles and lift access systems

Gates, boom gates and lifts

Long range readers so a driver does not open a window, plate recognition where the vehicle is the credential, and lift control so a card only reaches the floors it should.

Best for:

car parks, yards, apartment towers, multi tenancy buildings

Commercial intercom and entry access control system installed at a secure apartment or office building entrance

Intercom and entry integration

The intercom verifies who is at the door and the entry system decides whether it opens. Standard on apartment buildings and any reception that is unstaffed part of the week.

Best for

apartments, body corporate, offices without a permanent receptionist

Industries We Serve

Buildings We Work In

The hardware barely changes between these. What changes is how the permissions are built, and that is where a system either works for years or ends up propped open with a fire extinguisher.

Offices and professional suites

Front entry on a schedule, restricted server and records rooms, staff on mobile credentials, and visitors on a pass that expires the same day.

Warehouses and industrial sites

Personnel doors, dock doors, roller shutters and yard gates, with long range readers so drivers stay in the cab and a log that satisfies safety audits.

Apartments and body corporate

Lobby, lift, car park and bin room on one credential set, issued to a tenant on move in and dead the day they hand the keys back.

Clinics and allied health

Drug safes, records rooms and after hours staff entries, with retention and access practices that suit your privacy obligations.

Schools and childcare

Controlled entry during hours, visitor sign in, restricted yards, and after hours facility hire that does not need somebody to attend with a key.

Retail and hospitality

Staff only doors, stock and cellar areas, and a record of who opened up and who locked the place at close.

Ready to Get Off Keys?

One Licensed Team. One Visit. One Written Price.

From a single shopfront door to a building full of them, we survey, specify, install and support the whole system. No locksmith on one day and an electrician on another, and no gap between them where a door does not work.

What Goes on Each Door

What is the most important decision on a door? The lock, not the reader. A reader can be swapped in ten minutes. The lock decides whether the door still opens in a power failure, whether it holds under force, and whether the installation passes an inspection. We choose it door by door during the survey, which is the whole reason we survey.

Main Components

Door Controller

The decision maker, usually in a comms cupboard. Holds the rules, releases the lock, and keeps working when the internet drops.

Mounted beside the door. Weatherproof outside, slim and touch free inside. Reads whichever credential you have chosen.

Holds the door shut with an electromagnet and releases the instant power is cut. Always fail safe, so it needs a request to exit device and a break glass release.

Replaces the keeper in the frame. Can be specified to unlock or stay locked on power loss, so it suits doors where security outranks egress.

A sensor or button on the inside that releases the door on the way out. Legally required on most doors carrying a magnetic lock.

Manual release beside the door for a fire or an evacuation. Not optional on an exit door.

Keeps controllers, readers and locks running through a blackout rather than dropping the site offline.

Releases the exit doors automatically when the fire system activates. A hard requirement on most commercial buildings.

Where you add users, set schedules, unlock remotely and pull reports. Browser based, with no server sitting in a cupboard.

Cards, fobs, PINs, phones or biometrics. Most sites run two or three types for different groups of people.

From Survey to Handover

The same four steps whether it is one door on a shopfront or twenty across a building.

Free door survey

We walk the building and inspect every door. Frame type, swing, fire rating, existing hardware and where cable can run. This is where the real cost is decided.

Door by door specification

You get a written plan naming the lock, reader and release for each door, plus the user groups and schedules. Not a lump sum with nothing behind it.

Installation and configuration

Locks, readers, controllers and cabling fitted by one licensed team. Users enrolled, credentials issued, schedules built.

Testing and training

Every door tested both ways, egress and fire release verified, backup power checked. Then we sit with whoever manages it and show them how to add and remove people.

System Options

Cloud Managed or On Site Server?

Both hold the rules at the door, so both keep working if the internet drops. The difference is where you manage them from, and what happens as the site grows.

CLOUD MANAGED

Recommended

How it works

Managed through a browser from anywhere. Controllers hold the rules locally and sync back to the platform.

Adding a user

Thirty seconds from a laptop or a phone, wherever you happen to be.

Multiple sites

One login covers all of them, with permissions that follow a person.

Updates

Applied automatically, including security patches.

Ongoing cost

A subscription per door or per user, usually modest.

Ideal for

Almost every site we quote, from three doors upward.

Our recommendation for most Melbourne buildings. Cloud management pays for itself the first time somebody leaves on a Friday afternoon.

ON SITE SERVER

Alternative

How it works

Software runs on a machine in your comms room. You manage it from there or across your own network.

Adding a user

Someone has to be on site or on the VPN to make the change.

Multiple sites

Each site is generally its own installation to maintain.

Updates

Your responsibility, which is why so many on site servers end up years behind.

Ongoing cost

No subscription, but you own the server, the backups and the updates.

Ideal for

Sites with policies against cloud hosted data, or existing infrastructure worth keeping.

Hardware We Fit

We are not tied to one manufacturer, so the hardware suits your doors rather than our stock list. What we do insist on is genuine product with local warranty support and a supply chain that will still exist in five years. Entry hardware is a long life system and orphaned equipment is expensive to replace. The full range is on our [brands we supply  ] page.

Inner Range

Australian designed and widely specified on commercial and government sites here. Integriti is the benchmark for larger integrated buildings.

Gallagher

New Zealand designed, high security end of the market. Common on critical infrastructure and sites with strict compliance requirements.

Paxton

Straightforward, reliable and well supported. A very good fit for small to mid size commercial buildings.

Hikvision

Broad entry range that ties natively into their camera and intercom lines. Sensible where the site already runs Hikvision.

Dahua

Strong face recognition and card controllers, and it integrates cleanly with their intercom range.

SALTO

Wireless and standalone electronic locks for doors where running cable is impractical. Heritage buildings, retrofits and hotels.

Why Most Buildings Still Run on Keys

Almost nobody upgrades because it sounded interesting. They call us after one of these, or once they realise it is coming.

Nobody could tell me how many keys were out there.

He left in March and still had a key in June.

Stock went missing and we had no way of knowing who had been in.

The cleaner needed access at six, so we gave everyone the same code.

Every one of those is a management problem rather than a lock problem. A key works forever, copies itself at any hardware shop, and tells you nothing about who used it. A credential is tied to a person, expires when you decide, and writes a line in the log every time it touches a reader. That is the whole difference, and it is why rekeying a building solves the symptom while changing nothing underneath it.

What Our Clients Say

Borderless Solutions helped us choose the right cameras and alarm for our property. No pressure, just honest advice and great installation.

Time to Upgrade?

Signs Your Entry System Has Had Its Day

Entry technology has moved a long way, and an older system usually costs more in workarounds than a replacement would. Upgrading is also cheaper than people expect, because existing cabling, controllers and lock hardware can often be reused while the readers and software move to something modern.

How much does a door entry system cost in Melbourne?

It is driven by door count and door type rather than by the reader. A single timber door with an electric strike is a modest job. A frameless glass entry with a magnetic lock, an exit device, a break glass release and a fire interface is a different order of work. We inspect every door and quote in writing, so you get a real figure rather than a phone estimate.

Yes, and it is the fastest growing way our clients use these systems. Credentials work over Bluetooth or NFC, so the phone in your pocket is the key. They are issued and revoked instantly from the dashboard, which removes the problem of chasing cards back from people who have left.

Two things. Battery backup keeps controllers and readers running for several hours. Separately, every electrically locked door is specified to fail in a defined direction. Fail safe hardware unlocks so people can get out. Fail secure stays locked. On any door forming part of an exit path, people must be able to leave freely without a credential, and that is set by the building code rather than by us.

Yes. Controllers hold the credential list and the rules locally, so cards, fobs, PINs and biometrics keep working at the door. What you lose is remote management and live alerts, not entry itself. Everything syncs when the connection returns.

Yes, and it is the most useful pairing available. An entry event arrives alongside the footage from that door, so you see who actually walked through rather than only which credential was presented. Our team handles both sides of it.

Yes. The common setup is disarming with the same credential that opens the door, and arming automatically when the last authorised person leaves. It removes the two most common alarm problems in a business, which are staff forgetting to arm it and everybody sharing one code. Our [alarm installation] page has the detail.

Cloud platforms handle thousands of users and dozens of doors without difficulty. The practical limit is almost never the software. It is whether the permission groups were thought through at the start, which is what the specification stage is for.

Yes. Doors can unlock for trading hours and secure themselves afterwards, and individual people or groups can be restricted to their own windows. A cleaner with Tuesday mornings, a contractor with a fortnight, a manager with no restriction at all.

Very. The credential cannot be lent, lost or copied, and modern readers store a mathematical template rather than an image of your finger. There are privacy obligations attached, because biometric data is sensitive information under Australian law, so we set these up with proper consent and retention practices. We will also tell you honestly when a card would serve the same door just as well.

Yes, and it is one of the strongest reasons to go cloud managed. Permissions follow a person across sites, reporting can be pulled per site or across the group, and you are not maintaining a separate key register for each location.

Fail safe hardware unlocks when power is lost. Fail secure stays locked. Fail safe is required on doors people need to escape through, which is why magnetic locks always need an exit device and an emergency release on the inside. Choosing wrongly is the most serious fault we find on systems installed by non specialists.

Yes. Frameless and aluminium framed glass doors need specific hardware, usually a magnetic lock with a matching armature bracket or a purpose made glass door strike. It is more involved than a timber door, which is one of the reasons we inspect each door rather than quoting from a count.

Yes. Lift control restricts a credential to particular floors, which is standard in mixed tenancy buildings. For car parks we install boom gates, roller shutters and long range or plate recognition readers so drivers do not need to open a window.
