Camera Systems Built Around Melbourne Properties

Every property is different, so the coverage is designed around how people actually move through it, then quoted in writing. The most common fault we find on existing systems is not cheap hardware it is cameras pointed at the two approaches an intruder is least likely to use. We walk the boundary before recommending anything.

From a four-camera wireless home setup to a multi-channel commercial CCTV installation, our security camera systems are positioned for the property, not sold off a shelf.

Double-brick home

Solid walls with no usable cavity are why wireless cameras dominate the inner east. Full 4K coverage with no chasing, no conduit across the render, and nothing to make good afterwards.

New estate build

Cabled at rough-in while the walls are open, so nothing is ever visible. Camera positions planned against the finished landscaping rather than the empty block

Retail shopfront

Register coverage that captures hands and face, entry and exit for identification, and the rear service lane where after-hours attempts actually happen.

Warehouse

Wired PoE backbone across roller doors, loading docks and racking aisles, with solar cameras on the yard corners where trenching a cable makes no sense.

Types of CCTV Systems We Install

We’re authorised installers for the brands below, giving you genuine components, factory-trained technicians and direct manufacturer warranty support. Which system suits you depends far more on your building than on your budget.

Wireless WiFi security camera installation Melbourne - Borderless Solutions indoor outdoor CCTV

Wireless Camera Systems

Cameras send video over your network instead of a cable run, so a full system goes in without chasing walls or lifting roof tiles. 4K resolution and AI detection identical to their wired equivalents.

Best for:

Existing homes, heritage properties, apartments, retrofits

Solar powered wireless security camera with battery backup - outdoor CCTV installation

Battery & solar cameras

Completely cordless, so there’s no power cable or network cable to run, and repositioning takes minutes. A generously sized solar panel keeps them charged even through a Melbourne winter.

Best for:

rentals, sheds, boundaries, gates, construction sites

AI detection security camera with face and vehicle recognition - smart CCTV Melbourne

AI detection cameras

On-board processing classifies what it sees before deciding whether to alert you. Person, vehicle and animal filtering is what stops the forty-notifications-a-day problem that makes people mute the app.

Best for:

anyone who has muted their current camera alerts

Hardwired PoE CCTV system network rack installation - professional security wiring Melbourne

Hardwired Network Camera Systems

One cable carries both power and video to each camera, back to an on-site recorder. Nothing depends on WiFi, and nothing needs recharging. Still the right answer for large sites and long runs.

Best for:

new builds, warehouses, large commercial sites

Smart doorbell and entry camera installation Melbourne by Borderless Solutions — live video feed and smart lock security.

Smart doorbell & entry cameras

Two-way audio at the front door, with a live view that reaches your phone wherever you are. The single most effective fix for parcel theft people behave differently when a voice comes out of the wall.

Best for:

parcel theft, front entries, answering the door remotely

Commercial & multi-site systems

Higher channel counts, longer retention, role-based access so staff see only what they should, and one login across multiple premises. Optional ANPR at gates where vehicle movements need a record.

Best for:

retail chains, warehouses, offices, property managers

CCTV and Alarm Integration Service in Melbourne, Australia by Borderless Solutions

CCTV + alarm integration

Cameras and intrusion detection in one app, so an alarm event arrives with the footage that explains it. Video verification also cuts false callouts when a system is monitored.

Best for

whole-property protection

CCTV System Components

What’s the most important part of a camera system? Height and angle. A 4K camera mounted too high gives you a perfect image of the top of a hat. Identification happens at around 2.5 metres, angled across the approach rather than straight down it which is why we map your property before recommending anything

Main Components

Security Cameras

The part that decides everything. Resolution, lens angle and low-light performance determine whether footage identifies a person or merely proves something happened.

Stores the footage on site. Keeps recording through an internet outage, and holds your retention period without a subscription.

Sized to the retention you actually need. Surveillance-grade drives are built for continuous writing a desktop drive in a recorder fails within a couple of years.

Extends network coverage to cameras your router cannot reach. More than half our camera jobs include one, because a router in the front study will not cover the back fence.

Delivers power and data down one cable to each wired camera. Removes the need for a power point at every camera position.

Live view, playback, smart search and alerts on every phone in the household. Set up and tested with you before we leave.

On-board or recorder-side processing that classifies people and vehicles rather than reacting to any movement at all.

Motion-triggered light and audible deterrent. Turns a passive recording device into something that changes behaviour.

Speak through the camera from your phone. Ends most parcel theft and rear-door interest on the spot.

Keeps cameras and recorder running through a blackout, which is exactly when a system is most likely to be needed.

Our CCTV Installation Process

The same sequence whether we’re fitting four wireless cameras to a townhouse or commissioning a sixteen-channel warehouse system.

Free site assessment

A licensed technician walks the property, identifies the real approaches rather than the obvious ones, and tests WiFi signal at every proposed camera position.

Coverage plan & quote

A plan showing each camera position and exactly what it covers, with an itemised written quote. No hidden call-out or programming fees.

Installation & configuration

Cameras mounted at identification height and angle, cabling run by registered cablers where needed, detection zones drawn (typically 3–6 hours).

Recording Options

Local NVR vs Cloud Recording — Which Is Right for You?

Every system we install can record locally, to the cloud, or to both. The right answer depends on how long you need to keep footage and what happens if the recorder itself is stolen. Here is how the two compare.

LOCAL NVR RECORDING

Recommended

How it works

Footage records to a hard drive in a recorder on your property. Everything stays on site and under your control.

If the internet drops

Keeps recording without interruption. You lose remote viewing, not the footage.

If the recorder is stolen

The footage goes with it. This is the one genuine weakness, and the reason we often pair the two.

Ongoing cost

No monthly fee at all. You pay once for the hardware and storage.

Ideal for

Most homes and any site needing long retention without a recurring bill

Our recommendation for most Melbourne properties: local recording as the foundation, with cloud added where the recorder itself is at risk.

CLOUD RECORDING

Alternative

How it works

Footage uploads to secure off-site servers as events happen. Accessible from anywhere without touching the recorder

If the internet drops

Uploads pause until the connection returns. Anything not yet uploaded during the outage may be lost.

If the recorder is stolen

Unaffected — the footage is already off site. This is exactly what cloud is for.

Ongoing cost

A monthly subscription, usually modest, scaling with camera count and retention.

Ideal for

High-value premises, remote sites, and anywhere the recorder could be reached.

Why Most CCTV Footage Turns Out To Be Useless

Most people call us after something has already happened. The stories repeat, and almost none of them are hardware failures.

We had footage, but you couldn't tell who it was.

The alerts went off constantly, so we stopped looking at them.

They came in through the side gate — no camera covered it.

The cameras had stopped recording months ago and nobody knew.

Every one of those is an installation problem rather than a hardware problem. Cameras mounted at identification height and angled across the approach, AI filtering configured on site instead of left on a factory default, coverage decided by walking the boundary rather than guessing from the kerb, and a system checked after dark before handover that is what separates footage that helps police from footage that only confirms you were robbed. It is the problem our licensed installers solve every day.

What Our Clients Say

Borderless Solutions helped us choose the right cameras and alarm for our property. No pressure, just honest advice and great installation.

Time to Upgrade?

Signs You Need to Replace Your CCTV System

Camera technology has moved fast. If your system pre-dates smartphones it is probably costing you more in missed footage than a replacement would. Upgrading is also cheaper than most people expect in many Melbourne homes we reuse the existing cabling and mounting points, so you pay for modern cameras rather than a whole new installation.

Do wireless security cameras still need wires?

Most need power. A WiFi camera sends its video wirelessly but usually plugs into a nearby outlet. Only battery and solar cameras are genuinely cordless, and those trade convenience for a recharge cycle. It is the single most common misunderstanding we encounter, so we explain it at the assessment before anything is ordered.

Four to six covers most three and four bedroom homes: front entry, driveway, both side accesses and the rear yard. Corner blocks and larger properties usually need six to eight because there are simply more ways in. We map the positions after walking the boundary rather than quoting a package sight unseen.

It depends on camera count, resolution, wireless versus wired, and how much storage and retention you need. Quoting without a site assessment usually means over- or under-specifying, so we carry out a free on-site assessment and provide a detailed written quote — an accurate price, not an estimate. Call 1300 520 116 to book one.

For the cameras themselves, no licence is legally required. For any cabling inside your walls, yes — in-wall telecommunications cabling must be carried out by an ACMA-registered cabler. We hold Cabler Licence T59216 alongside our Master Security Licence Z67-511-50S, so both halves of the job are done legally by the same team.

Covering your own property is generally fine. Where it becomes sensitive is footage capturing a neighbour’s private space — inside their windows or their back yard — and audio recording, which Australian law treats more strictly than video. We position cameras to cover your boundary without pointing into someone else’s living space, and we will tell you if a position you have asked for is likely to cause a problem. Businesses recording staff have separate notification obligations.

They keep recording to local storage — either an SD card or the on-site recorder. What you lose during an outage is remote viewing and cloud upload, not the footage. Where uptime genuinely matters we can add mobile data failover so the system stays reachable.

There is no honest distance figure, because it depends entirely on what sits between them. Double brick, foil-backed insulation and metal sheds cut range dramatically — a camera fifteen metres away through two walls can perform worse than one forty metres away with line of sight. We test signal at every proposed position during the assessment and add a mesh node or access point where one is needed.

Not for local recording. A system with an on-site recorder works with no ongoing fee at all. Cloud storage is optional and usually inexpensive, and it earns its keep where the recorder itself could be stolen. We set up whichever suits you and we do not push subscriptions.

A four to six camera wireless system is usually a single visit of three to six hours including configuration and app setup. Wired systems and larger commercial sites take longer depending on cable runs. The estimated timeframe is confirmed in your written quote before work begins.

Yes. Fully wireless and battery systems need no cable runs at all, which makes them the practical choice for rentals, heritage buildings, apartments and any property where cabling would be disruptive. On double-brick homes it is often the only sensible option.

With a camera specified and positioned for it, yes. Plate capture needs a dedicated angle, the right shutter speed and a suitable sensor — a general overview camera will not manage it, particularly at night with headlights facing it. Tell us at the assessment if plate capture matters and we will position a camera specifically for that job.

Yes. We service and repair systems from all brands including Hikvision, Dahua, Swann, HiLook, Uniview and others, whether or not we carried out the original installation. Faults, offline cameras, failed recorders, storage upgrades and full system upgrades are all covered.

It depends on storage size, camera count and resolution. Two weeks to a month is typical on a residential system; commercial sites often need longer for insurance or compliance. We size the storage to the retention you actually need and show you where to check it.
